The Ichijou Festival commenced already here, with the first set of polls already closed, and this last half pretty much done with one day to go. That being said, this was an interesting bracket after the last few brackets that have been pretty strong. And by interesting, also in the sense that I haven’t heard several of these songs before now. 😛

And so I finish with moments that made an impact on me in some way, shape or form. It makes me realize just how much has gone on this year that’s been interesting and fun to keep up with, and it also reminds me about how many moments that I haven’t seen yet. Things keep on moving, so hopefully this next year keeps up with the trend of interesting shows, though I might not be able to keep with them as much as I did this year. Ah well. Unlike the openings and closings of anime this year, good standalone series soundtracks (that is, good in my subjective lack of taste sense) have been hard to find for me, which is a little sad. That said, there were some pretty nice ones that I felt provided a complete listening experience, or ones that kept my interest throughout (sorry Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino-, Spice and Wolf and Kamen no Maid Guy. Yes, I do include the latter here). Feel free to tell me hour wrong I am here, and some better choices, as well as some that I should hear as well (like the Naburi no Ou OST, which I should check out soon). Again, musical taste is subjective, and mine could be sorely lacking. 😛

There are some phrases said that just stick in my memory long after they’ve been said in anime. Those or phrases that are interesting enough, absurd enough, thought-provoking enough, or awesome enough (the latter makes up the majority of them) that I want to share them with others, but need to write them down before I forget them, or something like that. Either way, what you see are what worked for me, and hopefully why they worked for me. Remember that these are statements that I write down under the mercy of whoever decided to translate them, so if these aren’t the correct results, forgive me. And again, feel free to also add your thoughts on phrases you heard and think are awesome.

This year was insane with the amount of anime openings and endings that I liked, and it was hard to narrow down the amount to a “reasonable” number… so I didn’t really attempt to. But these ones here (coupled with Youtube videos) are the ones that stick in my mind the most over the year visually, aurally, or both. That being said, there is a list of Honorable Mentions at the end of the post to include OP/EDs that were also good, but stuff I could easily leave as well. I’m much more critical of music than I am of anime, but doesn’t mean that I have standards. 😛

Thankful for Anime, 2008

When I did this last year, I thought I was a little unique for setting it up the way I did. Turns out that this same format (and the title even), had been done for years past by one Jason Miao. Goes to show you how originality is hard to come by (orz). But it still is a good time to be thankful for yet another fun year in new anime series.

Impressions on ARIA: Praise You Like I Should

So this week, I’ve finished up (some would say survived) my first year of medical school.  While that is an accomplishment in and of itself (though I don’t really feel like that at the moment, and it’s only because people tell me that it’s so), I still have a whiles to go. Even after going through four years and two major tests (where the first one pretty much decides how high I can aim for the future based on what I get) in the end and hopefully grabbing that MD, there’s still more work to be done before setting off on my own.  A couple more years in a residency program, where I would work with bonafide doctors in learning my future specialty as well as participate in an internship for a year (or so I’ve heard, and I bet you’re getting tired of these parenthetic remarks by now. Maybe I should start using footnotes or something. :P), along with some more tests, and I would be good to go. The reason why I mention this sorta off-topic personal tidbit is because I hope that if I manage to get through my “magical” time in med school, my residency ends up being as enjoyable as the ones that Akari, Alice and Aika experienced under their tutelage under the Three Water Fairies in Neo Venezia.
