Impressions on Hyakko: A Class Act Led By A Class Clown

By TheBigN

Sometimes, it takes time for a show to find it’s groove, or for us to find ours when watching the show if we give it that chance.  The first word that came to my mind when watching Hyakko was “off-beat”, or at least “off the beaten path” (which now that I think about it, doesn’t make too much sense) from the show’s attempts of humor. It pulled through jokes in its own way at it’s own pace, and though that resulted in timing and execution problems of some of the attempts along the way, it usually worked for me. But more importantly, my initial thoughts of Hyakko also came from the cast of “off-beat” characters and their interactions, and that’s where this show is won, in my opinion.

Awesome choice. That the Hyakko mangaka drew this is more awesome.

TheBigN’s Crappy One/Two-Liner 2008 Fall Preview

As I’ve stated before, I haven’t done these things before because for most of the shows, I don’t know jack about them, so I thought there was no point. Well, I still think there’s no point in the matter, but because I can’t really think of anything else to post about for the moment (and the Hidamari Sketch x365 posts come when subs come, though I’ve already finished the series *tear*), I figured why not show-off my lack of knowledge and not-so-great humor? If you want actual valuable information, see the many other blogs that have the reviews for this season. Otherwise, here are my “brief” thoughts, with a few unrelated pictures because I’m lazy. Yes, it’s that crappy. 😛

And while on that, for Marimite Season 4.

Waiting for the upcoming Season 3.

New Anime Seasons and Our Selection Methodologies: “Because I Love This (insert buzzterm here)!”

By TheBigN(ow this is a Random Rambling!)

Something that I’ve found interesting from following the ‘otaku community’ (more far reaching than I’m considering due to my limited scope) is that even when the current season of shows haven’t even reached their halfway point yet, I see entries that talk about what’s going on for the next season. My first reaction consists of “WOW THAT’S FAST!” which is quickly followed by wondering why people are talking about the near future so quickly.  In my case, I’m not following that many shows this summer season, as well as slowly still finishing up plenty of shows starting in last season due to time constraints, interest and the like.  If you pay attention, that’s why you don’t see me make the posts that Nomad does for season previews, or why you only see a few shows that I might be interested in from comments on other’s blogs.  And while each of us have our own pace in getting to these new shows in do time, I do wonder how people pick and choose what they plan on checking out.

I look forward while always behind. Shikieiki keeps on going. Komachi does as well, but at a leisurely pace.

Nomad Super Awesome Everything* Review

By Nomad (back in action, and rarin’ to go) Otto

*to a very small value of everything

I’m back from flatland, and ready to produce a work of staggering genius, so awesome it will completely blow all y’all away. Or at least that was the original plan. Of course, that would require an idea about what to write about, along with a thesis and all that good stuff. So, instead, you get another edition of me reviewing crap. Whee. However, it’s good stuff (mostly) that I’m reviewing this time, so it’s not like there’s nothing to be gained by reading this. If, on the other hand, you find me being rude amusing, well, it’s not ALL good stuff, so you won’t go home unhappy either. So, what are we waiting for? See y’all below the fold.

Guess what this has to do with the rest of the review
