2ch’s Music Sense Leaves Much To Be Desired

From a link someone posted on one of the IRC channels I browse comes what apparently is the 100 best anime songs as voted on by 2channel.  While looking at the list and brief snatches of songs, I was mostly annoyed by what turned up and what was placed. How the hell could Ali Project be that high with their Rozen Maiden songs? Why the hell are Origa’s songs from GitS:SAC so low? Why aren’t songs like Jun (Cromartie High School’s OP), To the Other Side of the Door (FMA’s technical ED 3), Drastic My Soul (instead of the less awesome Reckless Fire) or any of the Pani Poni Dash OPs and EDs on there for example? I know music tastes are subjective, and that I’m sure I have an unusual bent on music at least.  I can understand that recent shows might not stand out as much as “timeless classics” songwise, and many of the songs are where they are on the list mainly because of popularity, which I understand but don’t like.

So I’m wondering, are there any grumbles you have about the list? Unheralded songs? Do you even care?  And yes, this is a “TheBigN wants to hear more awesome music he hasn’t heard before” sort of thing. It’s good to indulge yourself sometimes. 😛

wah: Duly noted. :3 And I do need to watch more anime stuffs, particularly of the 80s kind. It’s not like I’m eschewing it though, it’s just in the back of my mind. 😛

21stcenturydigitalboy: Maybe you should change what your name links too when you comment. I think that’s why your comments seem to be spam eaten.

I don’t wanna say that the list is epic fail, but the list is epic fail.

I mean seriously, when the best songs in my opinion are in the BOTTOM 50(seriously though, the Air OP over the Escaflowne OP? WTF!?), there is something seriously wrong with this picture.

And don’t even get me started on the songs that were left out…

Cobrafire: Actually, that’s kind of the point for me. 😛

Ok, you know what, I am gonna say something…

Tank at #87? Bouken Deshou Deshou at 80?? And where the hell was the Chobits OP??? What on earth is wrong with these people?!

Well, out of the songs I recognized on that list, I did like most of them, and I didn’t yet bother listening to the ones I don’t know. I agree with the existence of Platinum from CCS, the Haruhi songs, and the Utena OP on the list, but I personally would have much more FLCL and some Eureka Seven (mainly Days and Storywriter) on my own list… and likely the Kujibiki Unbalance OVA OP…

I don’t find the results all that surprising at all, honestly. I think it all just boils down to the fundamental differences in how anime and Japanese pop culture are understood and perceived in Japan (and East Asia as a whole) as opposed to elsewhere.
