Impressions on a Year 2008: Happy Action Fun Time

By TheBigN

Part 1: Interesting People
Part 2: Awesome OP/EDs
Part 3: Fun Phrases
Part 4: Scintillating Soundtracks

And so I finish with moments that made an impact on me in some way, shape or form. It makes me realize just how much has gone on this year that’s been interesting and fun to keep up with, and it also reminds me about how many moments that I haven’t seen yet. Things keep on moving, so hopefully this next year keeps up with the trend of interesting shows, though I might not be able to keep with them as much as I did this year. Ah well. As always, if you have selections of your own, please say them. :3

Impressions on a Year 2008: Scintillating Soundtracks

By TheBigN

Part 1: Interesting People
Part 2: Awesome OP/EDs
Part 3: Fun Phrases

Unlike the openings and closings of anime this year, good standalone series soundtracks (that is, good in my subjective lack of taste sense) have been hard to find for me, which is a little sad. That said, there were some pretty nice ones that I felt provided a complete listening experience, or ones that kept my interest throughout (sorry Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino-, Spice and Wolf and Kamen no Maid Guy. Yes, I do include the latter here). Feel free to tell me hour wrong I am here, and some better choices, as well as some that I should hear as well (like the Naburi no Ou OST, which I should check out soon). Again, musical taste is subjective, and mine could be sorely lacking. 😛

Impressions on a Year 2008: Fun Phrases

By TheBigN

Part 1: Interesting People
Part 2: Awesome OP/EDs

There are some phrases said that just stick in my memory long after they’ve been said in anime. Those or phrases that are interesting enough, absurd enough, thought-provoking enough, or awesome enough (the latter makes up the majority of them) that I want to share them with others, but need to write them down before I forget them, or something like that. Either way, what you see are what worked for me, and hopefully why they worked for me. Remember that these are statements that I write down under the mercy of whoever decided to translate them, so if these aren’t the correct results, forgive me. And again, feel free to also add your thoughts on phrases you heard and think are awesome.

Impressions on a Year 2008: Beginning With Interesting People

By TheBigN

I don’t know if I can do this next year, what with how the end of second year and the beginning of third year of med school (if I make it that far) goes. But more than about actually being able to see plenty of anime in 2009 is I’ll be motivated enough to keep track of stuff that grabbed my attention over this next year like I did this year. It’s been tiring and annoying to set this list up. But even most importantly, it’s been fun to try and do it again, especially when I’ve seen a lot more stuff in 2008 than 2007.  As always, my opinion is not the be all and end all, so feel free to comment and criticize about my picks. If I forgot someone, let me know. If you don’t agree with any of my choices, let me know (hopefully with more than “X character”>*, though :P). Hopefully this will be an enjoyable experience for you as well.:3

To begin with, for 2008 there are still several people that I like enough over the year to write about, but these are the ones that stick most in my mind, even though things might change over time. It was great knowing them, and hopefully I can get to know more characters that I liked from this year as well.

Unfulfilled Expectations or a Drastic My Anime Blog 2008 Primer

By TheBigN

So according to others, I was apparently supposed to be part of the “12 Days of Christmas” craze that’s sweeping the blogosphere, and I’m kinda confused on how that impression came to be. I’m planning on doing what I did last year with the “Impressions on a Year 2008” coming soon after Christmas, but nothing of the sort was happening before the holiday. At the same time, I feel guilty when I see links from other blogs saying that I’m participating in it when I’m not, so I figured that I should go and do something about it. And from the outset be lazy and selfish about it. So, instead of covering my thoughts on the year of anime that I saw, I decided to write about what I thought were the best posts on DMAB this year, even though December isn’t over yet. Of course there’s bias involved here (yay self-horn tooting!), so if you have different favorites than I do, please feel free to say so. Nor is this post itself going to be the pinnacle of good writing (as I’m tired and lazy right now), but I feel that this helps people who haven’t bothered to check out the blog before, and at least it gives me some time to reflect on things.

A mix-up almost as bad as this one?

Thankful for Anime, 2008

By TheBigN

When I did this last year, I thought I was a little unique for setting it up the way I did. Turns out that this same format (and the title even), had been done for years past by one Jason Miao. Goes to show you how originality is hard to come by (orz). But it still is a good time to be thankful for yet another fun year in new anime series.

There’s Something About Hirom(ar)i

Written by TheBigN

Yes, cheesy title. I know. 😛

True Tears has been an entertaining 12 episodes so far, though unlike other bloggers I’ve read, I’d like to think that this show isn’t one of the best that will be offered this year, let alone this season (/undine-mailperson-kendo bias :3). It’s not because the show isn’t that good, since it is in a lot of ways, but because I hope that the series shown later in the year will be more spectacular than this one. That being said, I figure I should say my superficial, maybe already stated (and probably inaccurate) views on Hiromi from true tears since I can’t seem to get her out of my head from episode 12. Some disclaimers though: I’m more of a Noe fan than a Hiromi fan, but I’ll “try” not to have any bias here (*wink wink nudge nudge). There will be spoilers up to episode 12 of True Tears, so be careful. And as said in other places, Hiromi + glasses = no fair.
