Speaking of Moyasimon….

by dm00

…how aspergillus oryzae and friends really talk (for the longest time during her talk I was convinced that her skirt had an Aspergillus Oryzae pattern):

He asked that it be spelled “Moyasimon” so…

…he could use Google to find commentary on the English-language version of the manga, instead of the anime.

Stare at it for a long time, then look at a white wall

Volume two of Moyasimon arrives with many, many margin notes from Ishikawa-sensei, including a plaintive comment that he can’t find any reactions to the English language manga on the net. Perhaps now we know why he asked DelRey to spell the title “Moyasimon” instead of the “Moyashimon” romanization that we’re more accustomed to.

In among the sometimes-trivial, sometimes-educational, and often amusing marginalia is a story about college life and fermentation.

What’s on your wish-list?

by dm00

With the licensing of Xam’d and (previously) Toradora, I thought my wished-for list of anime licenses was growing pretty short.

Then I sat down to enumerate it, and I realized my list still had a ways to go (in no particular order):

  • Summer Wars
  • Mind Game
  • Tatami Galaxy
  • Kaiba
  • Kemonozume
  • Princess Arete
  • Starship girl Yamamoto Yohko (TV)
  • ef: a tale of me*o*ies
  • Bakemonogatari
  • Katanagatari
  • Angel’s Egg
  • Time of Eve (movie)
  • Welcome to the Space Show
  • Dennou Coil
  • Gakuen Utopia Manabi straight
  • Futakoi alternative
  • Kara no Kyoukai
  • Moyashimon
  • Yokohama kaidashi kikou (manga too, please — or, I’d be happy with just the manga, actually)
  • Durarara
  • Minky Momo: the Bridge of Dreams
  • Minky Momo: tabidachi no eki
  • The rest of Yawara!

(Some of these I’ve gone so far as to get (used, primarily) on R2 DVD, and may do more as years of not-being-licensed go by.)

Also, I’ve heard good things about My Mai Miracle, but I haven’t seen it. I’d spring for inexpensive releases of Shangri-la and Angel Beats, too.

This list would keep me ecstatic for a while, certainly.

Photoslop and bad puns

There's not Yotsuba! anime, but you could vote for Yotsuboryzae.

There's no Yotsuba! anime, but you could vote for Yotsuboryzae in last year's AGP.

Omo has already blogged about this, and Schneider has given a personal view of the first round.

It’s a lot of fun, with people finding ways to promote their favorite characters and anime — sometimes with text, sometimes with images, sometimes with faked newspapers, and sometimes with the surreal.

Once, with a series of recipes.

Last year, the AGP was taken a bit by surprise when a mob of cosplaying microbes suddenly appeared.

You couldn't vote for Akari (she'd lost in an earlier round), but you could vote for Akoryzae.

The whole thing was inspired by the already-almost-oryzae Aria super-deformed style.

A “Character Study” on Hidamari Sketch with Pictures and Sentences. Duh.

Written by TheBigN

I’m not the only one that’s pleased that someone has finally subbed the Hidamari Sketch specials (now if only Sketchbook could finish at least :P). As you’ve seen on this blog, the series is one of my favorites, and I keep trying to get people to take a look at it, and it’s working slowly but surely. :3 And I figure that it’s been a while (not really) since I’ve written a post on Hidamari that I should set up shop again. Besides making me wonder what would have happened had Shinbo and co. taken a more… proactive approach on the show (I think it would be awesome fun, but then I usually think that about most SHAFT productions), the specials reminded me how much I liked the characters and the things they do. Since I’m a very easy person to please, I was pleased so much by these two episodes that I felt like showing most of the cast off here. To help with this, I’ve included a shot or two that I thought personifies most, if not all of, the qualities that I see in each of the characters. All of these pictures are from the first Hidamari special, which is made of much win and awesome, though the second special is the same way, only in different areas. This is all in fun (i.e, not meant to be a great post), and as always, feel free to add on, take off, or conflagrate my thoughts as you see them here.

Our main foursome enjoying some well-earned summer break. Comes in an innumerable amount of flavors.

Impressions on a Year 2007: Awesome OPs and EDs

Written by TheBigN

Self-explanatory really, though my writing might not be. Whether because of the song, the visuals, or both, these intros and outros worked for me this year. Using youtube, I tried to get all raw versions, but some only had a subbed version. But that shouldn’t be too important, should it? 😛

BTW, this probably is a long post, which also explains what happens when you aren’t too selective. :3

Thankful for Anime, 2007

Granted, this will be bit earlier than usual for some, but why not get that head start in anyways? 😀

Vintage Cheese in Fall 2007

Written by TheBigN

I think I might be getting close to my fill of the dairy product for this year from these fall shows. And no, I’m not thinking about Moyashimon here (see what I did there?). So far, three shows that I’m watching have worked the idea in different ways.
